Ivan Salaverry MMA Director of Photography 2025

Twenty years,
in motion.

Two days inside one of Seattle's most respected MMA gyms — five disciplines, dozens of athletes, the texture of training captured frame-by-frame for the gym's 20th-anniversary refresh.

Honor twenty years. Set up the next twenty.

Ivan Salaverry MMA has spent two decades building one of Seattle's most respected fight gyms — pioneering MMA in the Pacific Northwest, then evolving into a multi-discipline training community across boxing, BJJ, wrestling, kickboxing, and MMA.

The 20th-anniversary refresh needed to do two things at once: celebrate the legacy that built the gym, and visually position it for continued growth — including an upcoming expansion to the Eastside. The work had to feel as authentic and no-nonsense as the gym itself.

"The texture had to tell the story — sweat, breath, footwork, focus. No voiceover, no overproduction."

Run the camera. Honor the room.

I shot the project as Director of Photography — running camera across the two-day production, lighting for the gym's actual spaces, and capturing the disciplines in a way that honored the gym's culture without veneering it.

Cinematography

Ran the two-day shoot — camera and lensing across five disciplines, athlete interviews, and brand environment. High-contrast frames, extreme close-ups on technique, pacing cut to physical tempo.

Lighting & Texture

Lit the gym for what it actually is — concrete, mat, mirror, sweat. Practical-led design that lets the room read on camera without softening the texture that makes the work feel real.

Coverage Plan

Shot list built across five disciplines and the full athlete range — class coverage, technique close-ups, breath-and-recovery moments, environment beats. Coverage that keeps producing cuts long after the launch window.
